A woman named Rahemat Lateef, a pregnant mother, claimed to have been kidnapped by some unknown gunmen while traveling to the state hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for child delivery. However, the Ogun State Police Command declared on Monday that this was a case of false kidnapping.
SP Omolola Odutola, the state police command's spokesman, revealed this on her X handle on Monday.
According to Odutola, the woman chose to stage her kidnapping after learning that she had experienced another miscarriage in order to save her husband's fury, who was understandably expecting her to go to bed.
She was far from being abducted since she organized the tales and went to Kwara State herself. She wrote the script because she was afraid of her husband's reaction, had experienced a miscarriage, and was frustrated by the recurrent episodes. The squad investigating the kidnapping began following her until she turned up.
It was said that Mrs. Lateef fled to Kwara State and returned to Abeokuta with her father.
Odutola, while providing updates on the situation, stated that "Rahemat Lateef, whom the husband reported abducted, was never abducted, but planned her voyage to Kwara State to avoid her husband's fury, because she has been unlucky owing to miscarriages.
She is safe and receiving medical attention," she continued.
Ogunbunmi Lateef, Rahemat's spouse, stated on Thursday of last week that he learned of his wife's kidnapping by some abductors through a WhatsApp message.
One Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro reported that his pregnant wife due for delivery left home for the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta," Odutola stated, verifying the report on her X handle.
"He got a WhatsApp message confirming his wife was kidnapped by armed men he didn't know."
